BLACKBERRY DAKOTA SMARTPHONE

The Canadian company, Research In Motion (RIM) is preparing to release a new BlackBerry smartphone that namely the BlackBerry Dakota. Its exterior is just like all previous models of the BlackBerry, but functionally is certainly a breakthrough for RIM.

BlackBerry Dakota smartphone has features a 2.8-inch capacitive touchscreen display with resolution of 640 x 480 pixels (VGA), a 5 megapixel autofocus camera with LED flash, image stabilizer function, and record HD video, Near Field Communication (NFC), 768MB of RAM, a 4GB of storage space, accelerometer, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi 802.11b/g/n. There is magnetometer, but for what is not specified.

The BlackBerry Dakota can act as an access point with 3G mobile hotspot. The handset is running on BlackBerry OS 6.1. It is works with quad-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE and UMTS/HSDPA.

The thickness of the BlackBerry Dakota is just 10.5 mm. No word on pricing or availability of BlackBerry Dakota on market at moment.

MOTOROLA ME811 WITH 1.2GHZ CPU

Motorola has recently released an upgraded version of Motorola Droid X smartphone, which was available in the US market.

The new handset is dubbed as the Motorola ME811 and will distribute in Chinese market via China Telecom.

As expected, the Motorola Droid X ME811 smartphone is powered by 1.2GHz TI OMAP3630 processor (instead of 1GHz), 1GB internal memory (Droid X is 8GB), and support for WAPI.

In other specifications of Motorola ME811 is a 4.3-inch touchscreen display with resolution of 480 x 854 pixels (FWVGA), 8 megapixel autofocus camera with dual LED flash and record 720p HD video, HDMI port, and more. The Motorola ME811 is running Android 2.2 OS and support CDMA EV-DO network.

Motorola ME811 smartphone will start go sale on January 17, 2011 and price of 4888 Yuan (or about $715).

SAMSUNG S5260 STAR II

There is photo of the upcoming Samsung touchscreen smartphone, the Samsung S5260 Star II, which will replace the previous model, Samsung S5230 Star.

Based on the picture, the Samsung Star II S5260 has brings Samsung bada platform.

Windows Phone 7 to offer Facetime competitor

Microsoft does not want to be left behind in the video call race, and is set to roll out an Apple Facetime competitor after Neowin managed to procure a bunch of photos containing the registry keys within Windows Phone 7, where among them mentions VoIP in passing. Needless to say, this leads to the logical conclusion that Microsoft’s FaceTime rival will use VoIP, but until an official word comes out from Microsoft, nothing is set in concrete just yet. Considering that Microsoft does have a rather strong interest in Live services, it could very well be hooked up to MSN Messenger eventually, but all of that will take time – something which we will just have to sit it out for the moment.

ViewSonic has recently announced a new tablet but offers full cell phone functionality, the ViewSonic ViewPad 4. The new gadget is runs Android 2.2 Froyo and boasts a 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8255 processor, 512MB RAM, and 2GB ROM.

The ViewSonic ViewPad 4 tablet/smartphone has features a 4.1-inch WVGA display, A-GPS, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, stereo Bluetooth, proximity sensors, ambient light, 5MP rear-facing camera, and VGA video-calling camera on front-facing.

The design of ViewSonic ViewPad 4 is looks like the LG GD880 Mini featurephone. Viewsonic will start sale the ViewSonic ViewPad 4 tablet/smartphone in the middle of 2011. The pricing will be dependent upon carriers.

Mobilicity has launched its re-branded smartphone in Canada, the Mobilicity Mobiflip. The handset is actually the Sidekick LX phone, which was appears last year but Mobilicity re-branded it now.
